August is like the Sunday of Summer because we start to feel summer is coming to a close. But there is still time to take advantage of summer’s best secrets when it comes to hair and beauty.

My favorite of course are beach waves — the kind that touches my toes and the kind in my hair.

Sally Beauty knows that we want to try the most trendy hair and beauty looks so they’ve set up sections on their website complete with tutorials and products you’ll need to create the look. And the products are under $10!

mermaidhair

My favorite parts to the Sally Beauty site is you can get the look for Boho Braids, Mermaid Hair, and there is a whole section of coconut scented products. Yes, I am loco for coconut in the summer.

From my favorite detangling hair brush to the hair serum you want to reach for to keep your hair strong, that section was the best!

Spin class. Beyonce workout. Aerial yoga. Central Park boot camp.

There are many ways to stay active in Manhattan. But when the price tag of all those classes start to break your budget, nothing compares to putting on your favorite athleisure outfit and just getting out and seeing the city.

It’s the most affordable way to stay active and live a healthy lifestyle!

EastRiver

Luckily, I live in a city with so many places to explore that there is no excuse to not stay active or live a healthy lifestyle. And if I want to get distracted by views as I get around, I can.

There is no excuse to not stay hydrated. I’m not a big fan of soda so I look for other beverages to drink. Ocean Spray recently launched PACt® Fruit Infusions which can be found in Target and most stores.

PACtfruitinfusions

It’s a combination of juice — 30 calories or fewer (per serving) — plus a healthy boost of cranberry PACs. PACs, or proanthocyanidins, are natural elements found in cranberries.

The juice drink contains PACs from 50 cranberries, doesn’t have added sugar (or GMOs!) and is naturally colored by cranberries! It’s found a place in my fridge!

Trendy Thoughts

June 29th 2016

Every year spring into summer trends are forecast but rarely do I find myself liking more than one. I have to say this year spring and summer trends are pretty spot on.
Like this open shoulder dress from Zara and my first pick of the season of an off the shoulder top from H&M.

I usually ignore trends and just dress for my body knowing I will be happy and smile if I am comfortable in the outfit.

You really can’t go wrong with any see-through fabric for any fashion occasion, you can dress it down with just a simple tank top under it or take it up a notch with a bold color pattern and a high wasted skirt for a night out on the town with the girls. It’s the fashion staple that’s here to stay!

You’ve probably seen me on Insta in one of my favorite see through Joie silk top. I’m just loving all wearable trends this season.

While summer only officially started two weeks ago, I have a feeling my wardrobe will include more on trend pieces than summers passed. And I am really looking forward to it. Make sure to follow me on Instagram to see which other trends I wear this summer!

I’m a Native New Yorker which means most of my closet is the expected color — black. I will admit that wearing any other color of any kind does confuse me and not make me feel as confident when I walk into a room. But rest assured, color — bright and muted — has definitely been added to my closet.

My old standby for any event is a Little Black Dress and now that summer officially starts on Tuesday, I find myself reaching for a LBD both for work and play reasons. Little Black Dresses come in so many styles and are perfect for so many occasions.

I found a Little Black Dress perfect for Early Summer 2016. I say perfect for Early Summer because it is a thicker material than I would wear during the oppressive July and August humidity mostly commonly felt in the Concrete Jungle I live in. Early Summer clothing means thicker material because nights could still be 60 degree weather or less and so could early mornings when walking to work. It’s like a Spring plus wardrobe.

Zara #LBD

Zara had this flirty off the shoulder dress with frills in black and white in store and red online. At $22.90 it was an absolute steal. I’ve paid far more for a dress not nearly as flattering. I bought the small which on my 5’9 frame is shorter than how it will fall on most people but I’ve never been afraid to show a little leg.

Zara LBD Summer 2016

Even my Instagram husband said I looked fantastic in the dress and he’s never steered me wrong in the three and a half years he’s been taking my photos for my blog Insta feed.

I’ve been showing shoulder a lot lately and since it is not only a summer 2016 trend but also a comfortable look for me, I really like this dress. I’ll wear it not only for date night but also dinner with the girls!

I have memories of my Catholic school days seeing classmates go home one day with long hair and come in the next day with short hair. Back then, it was the only solution when someone got lice. I’ve never had lice but I do know how I would feel if I unexpectedly had to cut my long hair back then.

Fairy Tales Hair Care hosted a #FairyTalesMix blogger event the other night to introduce us to latest products and since summer brings along with it a different set of hair care issues, I have a feeling young and old will find many of them useful. Stephanie and I sure had fun testing them out on the terrace.

One of the products stood out — Fairy Tales Hair Care Rosemary Repel hair spray — over 1,000,000 bottles have been sold of this proprietary blend of organic Rosemary, Citronella, Tea Tree and Geranium oils clinically proven effective to help prevent lice! Here’s to no longer cringing when my head rests on the back of an airplane seat.

I also teamed up with Stephanie to to make the Rapunzel Red Ringer cocktail created by Fairy Tales which is inspired by their Rosemary Repel line. Our silliness was all up on her Snap of course. In cased you missed it, let’s just say while Stephanie is ready to compete in the World Bartender Championships, my talents exist in muddling raspberries.

Want to make one yourself? — you’ll need:

1.5 oz. Premium Vodka
6 Raspberries, muddled
1 oz. Fresh Ginger, peeled and muddled
2 oz. Grapefruit Juice

Muddle raspberries and peeled ginger in a shaker.

Add vodka, ice, and grapefruit juice. Shake well.

Serve in a rocks glass. Garnish with a rosemary sprig and candied ginger.

Vegan Nail Polish

May 19th 2010

I find myself at the nail salon even during the Winter months. Of course nicer weather means more time getting mani-pedis but something about the nicer weather makes me eagerly try new polish colors and nail lacquer brands.

Here are some vegan nail polish brands that are not only eco-friendly (acetone, toulene, and DBP free) but look great.

1. SpaRitual was introduced to me while at the Spa at Sundance Resort this January. I was able to quickly pick a cute color close to the color I usually get at my local salon.

2. Urban Decay offers offbeat colors with a 220 strand application brush in their Summer of Love nail kit. Color names like Woodstock and Aquarius make it hard to ignore the brand’s love for years past.

3. ginger + liz came into my life via Robert Verdi at his Mother’s Day Tweet This party where Ginger and Liz were in attendance. They gave me a bottle of nail lacquer from their colour collection called Boss Lady but the one pictured above is called Chase Me and what girl doesn’t like to be chased.

4. Peace Keeper was ranked highest rated paint based non FD&C nail polish by Environmental Working Group’s Cosmetics Safety Database

5. A Beautiful Life soy based nail lacquers are free of carcinogens found in many other polishes.  And a relief to many of us, the colors are chip resistant so we can actually enjoy the pretty nail color we chose.
