As a little girl, I’d watch my mother get ready in the morning in front of her bedroom mirror. Her skin was always glowing. Watching her take care of her face made me prioritize proper care of mine.

Especially now that my face is the first thing viewers see when I appear in their homes early in the morning glowing, clear skin is a priority for me.

Over the years, I have been extra careful about what I eat and despite never having been prone to acne as a teen, I have it as a concern as an adult. I know certain foods could cause unwanted blemishes so I keep away from them. And I make sure to only use products that won’t irritate my skin.

I was introduced to SK-II Facial Treatment Essence a couple of years ago. I recently changed up my daily routine to start with SK-II facial treatment for glowing skin because it targets wrinkles, fine lines and dull/uneven skin tones. I’m lucky to have good genes but I’m still concerned with how my skin will age.

Friends have called it miracle water and knowing celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman used it backstage at the Rag & Bone runway show last Fashion Week gave me reason to pour facial treatment essence on my hand and pat it on my face before using any other serum or moisturizer.

I was drawn to use SK-II Facial Treatment Essence after hearing it contained an ingredient that over 35 years ago was found to cause Japanese Sake brewery workers to have youthful hands. That ingredient, Pitera — helps moderate the skin surface renewal cycle and balances the skin’s moisture barrier for overall hydration and elasticity.

When our hectic schedules make taking care of our favorite feature not easy, it’s nice to find products that will do a little extra work on our behalf without us having to even think about it.

“The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul.” – Wyland

Despite that groundhog’s prediction, it feels anything but spring like right now in New York. A few weeks ago, I escaped to warmer weather. It was long overdue and I’ve always been a fan of island hopping so I packed a carry on and boarded a plane.

My only issue before my flight was that every single bathing suit I owned didn’t fit.  Between gaining weight because of my grandmother’s illness and then dealing with her death, food was my friend and the clothing in my closet was being neglected. I decided to embrace my new bathing suit size and head over to the Lands’ End swim section for a couple of options.

While in Jamaica — one of our warm weather stops — I put on the Lands’ End Beach Club bandeau tankini in deep sea ombre stripe. It came with removable straps which I took off so I didn’t get tan lines. Paired it with the matching mid waist bikini bottom but with Lands’ End you can mix and match the bottoms. It looked like one bathing suit when I wore it since both pieces matched but it was the perfect two piece option for me.

It’s truly a beautiful bathing suit with all of its shades of blue. The matte silver hardware in the center front was a nice addition to the design.

The Wedding Guest

“Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.” – Robert Browning

I took a couple of years off from attending weddings. Even for close friends. Thankfully, they understood. But summer 2015 has been full of moments where I check things off my summer bucket list after thinking they would never happen.

This year I added “Be a wedding guest” to my summer bucket list. And in August, I checked it off.

Wedding Guest

This photo was taken after a curling iron mishap with a friend sent me to a hair salon I was unfamiliar with which resulted in hair that shouldn’t have seen the light of day. Pinned up hair was not my first choice. But let’s pretend none of that happened.

Didn’t the sunset make that a nice photo?!

Here’s what I wore to the Jersey Shore wedding –

// Dress // Monique Lhuillier dress (someone forgot to tell me the ceremony was outdoors. that dress was definitely not a dress for a summer outdoor wedding)

// Purse // Nicole Miller (my favorite). Inside is the pattern for York peppermint patties. (I’ve had an interest in sweets forever.)

// Necklace // Swarovski sad you can’t see it in this shot

// Shoes // Banana Republic

Glasses. Functional or fashionable?

The good news is that having to wear glasses no longer means having to choose between function and fashion, with numerous brands, styles, and colors available these days. The hard part comes when you’re deciding who you’d like to be today…

Eyewear: the choice is yours

Once upon a time, finding out that you needed to wear glasses was likely to strike fear and dread into your heart. How the times have changed, though, and there are now many options available to those who need to correct their vision.

Let’s start with frames, shall we? Round ones, square ones, aviator-shaped, oversized, thick, or thin – and that’s just for starters! There are now more types of frame than you’re likely to be able to count, with any number suited to your facial shape and style. Lenses are also designed to be any kind of shape and color that you can think of; whether you want dark and bold, or barely there, your glasses can be as personal to you as your thumbprint. Big brands and designers discovered the market years ago, and now offer the kinds of specs that wouldn’t look out of place on a catwalk in Milan.

Of course, choosing a single pair of glasses to suit your face and coloring doesn’t have to be the end of it. Glasses are removable, after all! Imagine having a couple of pairs handy for when you feel like a change – so many retailers now offer BOGOF deals that enable you to get two pairs at once, you’ll find changing your eyewear as easy as pulling on a new sweater. You’ll be a completely different person in seconds!

An alternative to glasses

While they’re so much more fashionable than they used to be, and are designed to complement your lifestyle rather than hinder it, glasses aren’t everybody’s first choice. Contact lenses can be a fantastic alternative, allowing former glasses wearers to alter their look immediately, and newly diagnosed eye care patients to keep theirs; nobody needs to know you’re wearing them, after all. Contact lenses can be hugely beneficial, suiting your lifestyle, and fashion choices, down to the ground.

How then, do you decide between contacts or glasses? Perhaps you don’t have to. Laser eye surgery has been growing in popularity during recent years, and is now a truly viable option when it comes to correcting your vision. No longer too expensive for ‘ordinary folk’, and not as painful as you may be anticipating, the procedure, if carried out by a professional establishment such as Houston LASIK vision surgery, has a high success rate. Consultations are reassuring and informative, so what do you have to lose?

Whether you’ve chosen to embrace glasses, find contact lenses more suitable, or have taken the plunge with laser eye surgery, looking after your eyes is essential; they’re the only two you’ve got, after all. The way you choose to correct your sight can have a massive impact upon the way you look on a daily basis, and it’s up to you to decide what that look will be.

My December calendar has nine holiday parties penned on it. That’s nine nights I will walk into a festively decorated room and toast to the season as holiday sounds pipe through speakers. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone with holiday cheer — it truly is my favorite time of year.

And while the idea of figuring out different outfits for each of the parties is a bit nerve-wracking; one thing I have a handle on is my beauty routine before each party. I’ve decided to keep it stress-free by reaching for products I already use. And they are all found in the holiday BabbleBoxx delivery.

When it comes to my face, I’ll be relying on my go-to Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation (and two step primer!) to start my look. I’ve worn this foundation both on air and to hosting events so if I can rely on it for my career, I’m confident any selfies or group shots with me will be flawless and not need any retouching. It’s available in 40 shades to match all skintones and formulated for all skin types. If you haven’t made it your foundation yet, get thee to a Sephora!

There’s no telling how many opportunities I will have for mistletoe moments but I’ll be prepared with LAQA and Co. cheeky lip pencils and lip lube. The two easy to apply lip color colors — Humble Brag and Mixtape — are perfect shades for the season and will have a permanent residency in my holiday clutch. Bold matte red lips are the way to go during the holidays and the tinted lip lube in Holly Gee Whiz will also keep my lips kissable. Mwah!

I’m a big fan of showing my legs when I wear dresses and with the unseasonably warm weather we have had lately in New York, it has been a great opportunity to not have to wear stockings or tights. Since I was born with a built-in tan, I’ll be ready to go but my bestie can totally use WayTooTan Dark hybrid tanning silicone lotion. It’s perfect year-round and includes multiple natural tanning enhancers for a fast, gorgeous and deep dark tan. And it has potent anti-aging organic antioxidants, including grape seed extract to help protect and promote a youthful glow and enhance skin health.

Right before I head out the door I’ll spray a bit of Jessica Simpson TEN on me. With a white floral, fruity, citrus and vanilla composition, this fragrance is one I will reach for throughout the season and beyond. I am so picky about perfume but Jessica Simpson has won me over with her latest! And the bottle is beautiful so it sits prominently on my dresser. My sissy has an amazing collection of fragrances and this would be a great addition so I’m getting her a bottle. Shh! No one tell.

Vegan Nail Polish

May 19th 2010

I find myself at the nail salon even during the Winter months. Of course nicer weather means more time getting mani-pedis but something about the nicer weather makes me eagerly try new polish colors and nail lacquer brands.

Here are some vegan nail polish brands that are not only eco-friendly (acetone, toulene, and DBP free) but look great.

1. SpaRitual was introduced to me while at the Spa at Sundance Resort this January. I was able to quickly pick a cute color close to the color I usually get at my local salon.

2. Urban Decay offers offbeat colors with a 220 strand application brush in their Summer of Love nail kit. Color names like Woodstock and Aquarius make it hard to ignore the brand’s love for years past.

3. ginger + liz came into my life via Robert Verdi at his Mother’s Day Tweet This party where Ginger and Liz were in attendance. They gave me a bottle of nail lacquer from their colour collection called Boss Lady but the one pictured above is called Chase Me and what girl doesn’t like to be chased.

4. Peace Keeper was ranked highest rated paint based non FD&C nail polish by Environmental Working Group’s Cosmetics Safety Database

5. A Beautiful Life soy based nail lacquers are free of carcinogens found in many other polishes.  And a relief to many of us, the colors are chip resistant so we can actually enjoy the pretty nail color we chose.
