This week’s Designer Spotlight shines on the designer whose pieces I’ve worn in many of my television segments. She also made the jewelry I wore last year at my very important birthday dinner.

1. Why did you decide to work with crystal?

I adore color…always have. The range of colors in crystal is endless. Add the sparkle of Swarovski and you have eye-catching, glamorous jewelry.

2. What do you use as design inspiration?

It’s the fashion I see around me: styles on the street, patterns, what my friends are wearing, color trends, runway looks, etc. When I’m putting together an outfit, I’m dreaming up the perfect necklace to go with it. I always think about what women would like to wear and then I “amp” it up. I like to supersize my jewelry with larger stones or more stones or more length, or I go the opposite way with smaller and delicate pieces. I guess I take it to the extremes…but wearable extremes.

3. Have a tip to share with owners of crystal jewelry?

Yes! Wear it! Crystal jewelry is a sparkly so it feels like dress up gear. But a pop of color and sparkle is so in style these days. Mix in a little flash with your every day wardrobe.

4. When you first saw someone wearing one of your pieces what did you do?

I thanked them! It was a thrill! And frankly, it still is. And I adore it when one of my clients tells me that she gets compliments on her Objets jewelry. That’s the best!

5. Who do you hope to see wearing one of your pieces?

More stylish women! I’d love for Objets to be gracing everyone’s style! In terms of celebs…I’d love to accessorize Natalie Portman, the cast of Glee, Aisha Tyler, Demi Moore, Eva Mendes, Kate Winslet, and of course Michelle Obama. And I recently met Michelle Branch (so darling!) and she has some Objets pieces…hope to see them soon.

6. Would you share a tip from one entrepreneur to another.

My favorite tip: always give great customer service. People love personal service. And along the way, you’ll learn more about your customers with insights into why your company resonates with them. A second tip: get a professional looking website and photos. It can be costly but it goes a long way in describing your brand. That way consumers can decide your brand fits their lifestyle.

Thanks Kirsten!
